April 26, 2013

Dear Parents,

Spring has sprung in the Quarter Note Class.  The children painted colorful umbrellas and glittery clouds which adorned our "April Showers" bulletin board.  They also created small flowers with muffin pan liners and various  items such as circles, buttons, and pompoms.  They then attached them to craft sticks and inserted them into the grass at the bottom of the bulletin board.

The children decorated the "Bring May Flowers" bulletin board with a large flower.  They all worked together to create a beautiful  pink and purple flower with an orange and yellow center covered with pompoms.  They also made  symmetrical butterflies by cutting out a butterfly shape and folding it in half.  They painted one half of the butterfly and then folded the paper together.  They were so surprised when they unfolded it.  The results were spectacular!  Please stop by our class to look at the great bulletin boards your children created.

We had so much fun celebrating Caleb's 4th birthday on Thursday.  Thanks to Caleb's family for bringing in delicious Spider man cupcakes.  The children loved them.  They all looked so funny with blue faces and hands. I would also like to thank them for donating the Runaway Bunny book to the school.  The children really enjoyed listening to the story.

In music this week, the children enjoyed marching to Twinkle rhythms while playing several different  percussion instruments. They also practiced singing "Rain, Rain, Go Away," and singing the "Garden Song" (Inch by Inch).

Next week we looks forward to continuing our spring unit by planting seeds and making "dirt cups."

Love,

Ms.  Bonne

April 12,2013

Dear Parents,

We continued our Nutrition Unit by learning about the fruit group and the grain group through class discussions and listening to stories.  Some of the children's favorite stories were:  Eating Right, The Fruit Group, and the Grain Group, all written by Helen Frost.  The children made Food Group Place mats which even included a picture of them drinking a glass of milk.

We made a delicious fruit salad which included blueberries, cantaloupe, apples, bananas, and blackberries.  The children loved it and couldn't get enough of it.

We made whole grain blueberry pancakes, which were also a big hit with the children, as you can see from the pictures.  The children also made rice cake faces by spreading cream cheese on rice cakes and adding fruit faces to them.

The children practiced yoga moves by looking at pictures from Babar's Yoga for Elephants book, and tried to imitate their moves.

The children were so excited when they finished all their projects and were able to take them home. They especially liked using their place mats at snack time.  They kept pointing to the picture of themselves drinking the milk and saying "That's me."

This week in music, the children started learning about the base clef.  They drew a pictures of the clef and learned the range.  The children  enjoyed dancing to movement songs and learning the notes of the scale. They concluded the music class by practicing with a mini-sized accordion.
