Dear Parents,

We had a terrific week in class.  The children enjoyed preparing for the Portfolio Party.  They loved practicing their repertoire of songs.  This class seems to love singing. Throughout the day many of the children will walk around the room singing.  I hope you enjoyed our Portfolio Party.  You should be so proud of your children's accomplishments.  I certainly am!

It is amazing how much they have grown.   It seems like such a short time ago they didn't even know how to hold a marker or  a scissor and now they are writing their names, drawing pictures and are even able to cut out intricate shapes.

During our morning meeting today, we discussed which animals live under the sea.  Some of the sea animals the children came up with were dolphins, sharks, whales, crabs, lobsters and fish. This class certainly loves to learn.  Today, before I even finished putting
out the project, the children were already sitting at the table.  They created individual aquariums by filling a plastic jar with shells, colored stones, frogs, glitter, and water with blue food coloring. The children then decorated the outside of their container with varies types of sea animals. The results were spectacular!

We were all so lucky to be able to attend a concert, put on by Michelle and Sachiko. Michelle played the violin and was accompanied by Sachiko on the piano.  Some of the songs they played were: "Ave Maria,"  by Charles Gounod, "Minute," by Luigi Boccherini (a Suzuki piece), "Gavotte from Mignon," by Ambroise Thomas,  "The Entertainer, Maple Leaf Rag," by Scott Joplin, and "Graceful Ghost Rag", by William Bolcom. It is amazing how talented they both are.  The children and teachers were in awe of the music.

During music with Michelle, the children sang and played their box violins along with Michelle.

We will continue with our beach theme next week.  We will also be having an indoor beach party (for children only) in class on Tuesday, June 4th. There will be a sign-up sheet in class next week, for anyone that would like to contribute food to our party.

I counted to 24 all by myself
